What an event that was! The event drew only 8,000+ boxing fans(it was a low attendance for a Manny Pacquiao event), but I guess those who did not buy tickets were surely be disappointed. I bought the pay-per-view in SM Cinema to watch the fight live together with my uncle and my friend. We all enjoyed the event.
THE MAIN EVENT
Let us start with the main event of the fight, Manny Pacquiao vs David Diaz. My fight prediction was Manny will win via UD. I doubted that Pacquiao will not carry his power in the lightweight division. But Pacquiao proved me wrong. He did carry his power, and his speed never diminished. Diaz looked terribly slow in the fight because of Manny's speed.
During the fight, there was a time that I really took pity of David Diaz. He is receiving too much punishment. In the middle rounds, everyone was shouting inside the cinema, 'Sige pa! Sige pa!' (Go on! Go on!), urging Pacquiao to put more punishment against Diaz. While I'm shouting, 'Ihinto na yan!' (Stop the fight!). As a nurse, I can see that it was a very dangerous situation for Diaz. He can really damaged his brain with that punishment. It was clearly that Diaz was outclassed that night. And the time came when he was knocked down on the 9th round. Finally, it was over.
I salute Diaz for his heart, and for his gallant stand against Pacquiao. Any fighter ho received those kind of blows to the head will surely be KOed during the early rounds, but Pacquiao took 9 rounds before Diaz was out.
For Manny Pacquiao, he didn't do nothing wrong in this fight. I mean it was all perfect. The bob and weaving, the side to side movement, the left hand, and most specially, the right hand! It has improved a lot, and I guess that was the key to his victory. That jab took away Diaz every time he tried to attack.
All praises to Manny Pacquiao for being the only Asian to achieve this feat. A champion in four different weight divisions. He put the Philippines in the world map again, and he made us Pinoys proud.
UNDERCARDS
I was very disappointed with the decision of Joe Cortez to call it as a disqualification against Humberto Soto. It was clearly that Lorenzo is not that hurt, and he was kinda acting. Soto clearly dominated the early rounds, and Joe Cortez must consider that Lorenzo was short, and Soto didn't noticed right away that Lorenzo was down between the exchange. If Cortez decided that what Soto did was illegal, he should have deducted first some points before calling it as a disqualification.
The fight between Monte Barrett and the giant one, I forgot his name, sorry. That was the fight that I really liked(after the main event, of course). My friend and I were really intimidated with the 'giant'. I even did a joke to my friend saying what if the giant was knocked out in the first round. And it was! We were kinda surprised because we never knew who the 'giant' and Monte Barrett was, and who is better between the two. I now know that Barrett was the better man. =]
I guess Luevano deserves to get his title back. I am rooting for Santiago during the fight, but I guess his laziness inside the ring causes him the title. There was a time he just circles around the ring. If I were him, as the challenger, I would be more aggressive, taking the fight to Luevano, especially if Luevano was exhausted. But it did not went that way, that is why it led to a split draw.
