Miguel Cotto vs Antonio Margarito Post Fight Blog
Published by Dyimz on Monday, July 28, 2008 at 10:21 AMThe Tijuana Tornado has done it. He finally proved to all boxing fans that he indeed belongs to the group of great welterweights in the world.
I am very glad with the outcome of the fight, because it is a hard earned victory for Antonio Margarito. I predicted that if Cotto will win, it would be a decision, and if Margarito will win, it would be a KO. And indeed it was a KO(TKO really =]).
In my scorecard from round 1 to 10, I got Cotto winning 96-94. But during the second half of the fight, I can see Cotto starting to slow down and I guess the punches of Margarito to the body had taken its toll. Cotto did a very good job circling around Margarito in the early stages of the fight, but it wasn't evident in the second half of the fight, which made it easier for Margarito to close the distance, unto the KO.
Honestly, I was impressed with Miguel Cotto, on how he counters and how he circles away. But Margarito is like wearing a helmet, he doesn't seem to be fazed even though Cotto is landing hard combinations to the head. Margarito is just persistent, a true heart of a champion. He did not get discouraged even though Cotto is hitting him while moving away.
Congratulations to Antonio Margarito for winning against the previously undefeated Miguel Cotto.
