Thoughts on Calderon vs Segura & UFC 118

Segura vs Calderon

A great defensive fighter vs a determined offensive fighter. That's what happened with the Calderon vs Segura fight.

Segura has a game plan and he sticked to it, punishing Calderon to the body. Calderon has a very, very great footwork, but due to the damages in the body, he stopped moving around the ring, in which Segura took advantage of. When Calderon stopped moving, Segura attacked and attacked, not only to the head, but to the body as well, adding further damage. Segura doesn't care if he got hit with a great punch from Calderon, as long as he land a punch as well.

Before this Calderon loss, almost everybody says that Calderon is like a little Mayweather. He is a great defensive fighter, and likes to move around the ring, which is also similar to Mayweather in my opinion. Not to be biased, but this can happen to the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight if ever it will happen.

As far as I can remember, I read before that Roach, trainer of Manny Pacquiao, said that their strategy will be attacking the body of Mayweather, just like what Jose Luis Castillo did to the first fight against Floyd. At first, to be honest, I think that Pacquiao will have a very, very difficult fight against Mayweather, and I don't think he can catch up with Mayweather. But after watching Mayweather against southpaws, and after watching this fight, I believe that Pacquiao has an 80% chance of not only beating Mayweather, but dominating him.

UFC 118

What does James Toney is thinking? That he can win the fight just by standing up with Couture? Of course Couture is more intelligent than that. You cannot even call the Toney vs Couture fight a fight. It is completely a noob fighting a pro. I can even imaging Joe 'Daddy' dominating Toney. Hopefully, more boxers will move to MMA just like James Toney, but hopefully, they will take seriously the world of MMA in case they do the move.

Frankie Edgar is no fluke. Honestly, I thought that it will be a very close fight since this is a rematch. But Edgar took down BJ Penn like no other fighter. We all know that BJ Penn is very difficult to put down to the mat, but Edgar has the key to that lock. If BJ Penn was the Goliath of the lightweight division, he just met his David. I am sure BJ Penn has a lot to offer and will come back from these two straight losses, and I am sure Edgar will be a great UFC Lightweight Champion.

PS: Can't wait for George St Pierre to come here in Manila!
